  • I saw a small article on the Wildflowering project in the LA Times today that caught my eye. The project interests me because the same aesthetic impetus fuels a project that my poetry/writer’s group and I have initiated, called the Native Blossoms Chapbook Series, published by Yak Press. I wonder if there might be ways to incorporate poetry into the Wildflowering project somehow. Part of our artistic mission for the poetry is to bring wider awareness to the imperative of using drought-tolerant native plants in landscapes in Los Angeles and throughout Southern California. We celebrate the poetry of place and the connection to the natural landscape, as well as focus on embracing the wild, untamed, and indigenous in our word work. In any event, I wanted to congratulate you on the “Wildflowering” of LA, and all of the work that has gone into the formulation and execution of this project!

    • Thanks so much Anne, I’m happy to hear from you, and know about your poetry project. Wildflowering LA officially concludes in July when the signs are removed, but maybe you could independently organize a casual Native Blossom poetry reading at Theodore Payne or the gathering circle on the 1 acre W.F.L.A. site at the L.A. Arboretum? You could just do it on your own and invite a small group to show up?
