ANIMAL ESTATE CLIENT: tent bat
Some bat species throughout South America choose to build their own homes rather
than sharing rotted out trees and caves with millions of other bats.
They
modify surrounding vegetation by biting the veins of leaves causing them to
fold into an upside-down “V”.
They
can be as small as 1” long, so up to twelve bats can live together under
one leaf safe from sun, rain, snakes and other predators.
After
a few weeks, they will find a new leaf to become home.
The
architecture of these tents varies depending on the kind of plants found in
the area.
