ANIMAL ESTATE CLIENT: water spider
The
water spider lives underwater, but breathes oxygen, so it must form a bubble
to bring down with it.
It
spins a sphere called a “diving bell” out of silk which holds air
inside, then traveling down in it and attaching it to underwater plants.
It
must consistently ascend to the surface to force a new bubble into the bell
to replentish its oxygen supply.
The
spider hides in its bubble until tadpoles or insects come near, when it attacks
and brings it back into the bell where it consumes its prey.
