* GARDEN *

I propose a sculpture that is inspired by the theme of garden. My works are installations that act as three dimensional drawing and sculpture. The scale, arrangement and combinations change according to the exhibition space. My works are proposals and part of an ongoing process that can shift. Aspects of the work suggest model making, yet the work is always a finished piece in its proposal state. Parts are relatively easy to move around and nothing is attached together permanently. The possibility to collapse, for transport or storage for example, creates additional opportunities for display. During the course of the Gardenlab show, I will arrange, add or subtract in order to create new works.
The
theme, in this case, “garden” is a rule or condition that vaguely
provides a setting for the work to develop. As with the material construction,
the theme is allowed to collapse and shift. Only certain types of themes are
used as references in my work. In general, themes are anthropologically related
topics or myths that involve the lives of people. These require a careful approach
as they easily fall into the category of cliché.
This work will respond and play with stereotypes. My approach is one of being
a tourist of a genre. Having a tourist point of view, information is filtered
bit by bit. In the case of the “Garden Project,” the architectural
and natural components as well as the symbolic aspects are absorbed as bits
of information, which I see as pattern. The work creates a new sculptural form
and pattern from these translated patterns.
