Lightweight Structures Proposal
TK Architecture & Tom Leader Landscape Design
We will present
a a large scale sectional model of a speculative landscape proposal, Stabiae
Archeological Park: Lightweight Structures, in collaboration with Tom Leader
Landscape Design. The proposal is for an array of public interpretive shelters
sited across the 2000 year old city of Stabiae archeological dig site in Castellemare,
Italy. Lightweight scaffold, cladding and fabric structures adapt to a broad
range of programs including dig site coverage, walkways, canopies and public
spaces. This model will serve to test the diverse range of applications of the
system at a crucial
moment in its formal development. The sectional model will cut through one of
the ancient villa dig sites and the proposed lightweight structures above and
surrounding the dig site, including performance spaces and other public amenities.
The model will be an experimental tool to study the cladding and fabric systems
spatial as well as material effect.
TK Architecture is a multidisciplinary practice led by Alan Koch and Linda Taalman addressing a broad range of scales and approaches for the built environment, involving the research of pioneering and speculative projects, engaging and conspiring with creative individuals, and creatively synthesizing and interpreting the goals of clients, institutions and organizations. Founded on the principals of experimentation and speculation -- innovation and fabrication, TK Architecture’s mission is to continue to mediate thorough investigations of the built environment and stimulate dialog with the community in the production of well-built and thoughtful environments.
